  9.     This short documentation file contains instructions for both NEW and
  10.     UPGRADE installations.  Please read the appropriate section in this
  11.     document carefully before attempting to install the mail door.  A "What's
  12.     New" section is included at the end of this file.

  14.     PLEASE NOTE THAT DAVE PARKER IS NO LONGER THE EUROPEAN REGISTRATION SITE.

  19.     ** This mail door supports QuickBBS v2.80 (Beta, Gamma, Zeta, etc.).  It
  20.        does not work with earlier versions of QuickBBS.

  22.     ** This mail door works with both the Standard QuickBBS and the GoldBase
  23.        QuickBBS system files.  If you are running the GoldBase version of
  24.        QuickBBS, you must enable the mail door's GoldBase mode in the
  25.        BWSETUP->Options and Toggles Editor.

  32.     Please read Chapter 5 in BWMAIL.DOC for full installation instructions.
  33.     Sections 5.1 and 5.2 contain the quick step-by-step installation procedure.

  38.     UPGRADE INSTALLATIONS
  39.     =====================
  40.  
  41.     The first step in performing this upgrade is to determine the version
  42.     number of the door that you are currently running.  If you are currently
  43.     running version 2.90x of the mail door, you may proceed with the upgrade
  44.     installation.
  45.  
  46.     If you are running a version earlier than 2.90, an upgrade installation
  47.     is not possible.  You will need to perform a new installation of the mail
  48.     door into an empty directory.
  49.  
  50.     1)  Locate the file 290to310.exe.  This file should have been enclosed
  51.         in the main BW310QB.ZIP archive.  Copy this file to the directory
  52.         where your mail door is currently installed.
  53.  
  54.     2)  Get a directory listing of "*.PRM" in your Blue Wave Mail Door
  55.         directory.  If the only *.PRM file listed is "BWMAIL.PRM", you will
  56.         only need to run the conversion program once.  If your system is
  57.         configured with multiple door configuration files, you will need to run
  58.         the conversion program once for *each* .PRM file in the directory.
  59.  
  60.     3)  Run the program 290to310.exe -- this will upgrade your current data
  61.         files to be compatible with the new version of the mail door.  You must
  62.         run this once for each mail door configuration file (see step #2).
  63.         If the data file conversion is successful, you may delete 290to310.exe.
  64.         This program is no longer needed.

  66.     4)  Unpack the ENTIRE contents of BWMAIL.ZIP (enclosed within the
  67.         BW310QB.ZIP archive) to your current mail door directory.  The entire
  68.         contents of this archive need to be unpacked -- overwrite all files
  69.         with duplicate file names.

  71.     5)  The following file should be deleted from your mail door directory,
  72.         as it no longer used:

  74.                 *  BWDOOR.USE  (replaced with BWDOOR.DOC)
  75.                 *  BWUTILS.EXE (replaced with BWSETUP.EXE)

  77.     6)  Check your BBS maintenance batch files for any instances of:

  79.                 BWUTILS PURGE nn
  80.  
  81.         This packs The Blue Wave Mail Door's user file, removing all users who
  82.         have not used the mail door in 'nn' days.  All occurrences of this need
  83.         to be replaced with:

  85.                 BWSETUP PURGE nn
  86.  
  87.         If you do not currently remove old records from your mail door user
  88.         file, this would be a good time to add it!
  89.  
  90.     7)  Run the new BWSETUP program to insure that the conversion completed
  91.         successfully.  Please be sure to check out the new "FidoNet->Internet
  92.         Gateway" menu item in BWSETUP.  There is both online documentation
  93.         (press <F1> at any time while in BWSETUP) and standard documentation
  94.         (BWMAIL.DOC) for this new feature.

  101.     *>  Added support for QuickBBS's GroupMail feature (messages addressed
  102.         to **ALL).  Full security level and flag checking is performed when
  103.         these are present in the TO: field of the message.  During mail uploads,
  104.         the mail door will thwart a user attempt at creating a "**ALL" message
  105.         by re-addressing the message to "All", unless that particular user
  106.         has "Sysop Security" in the destination message area.

  108.     *>  BWSETUP now includes extensive online help.  At any time while using
  109.         BWSETUP, press <F1> for context-sensitive help.

  111.     *>  A new seamless FidoNet->Internet Gateway which allows users of The
  112.         Blue Wave Offline Mail Reader version 2.20 or higher (and third-party
  113.         readers that support the BW 3.0 Packet Specifications) the ability
  114.         to easily address/send Internet E-Mail messages through standard
  115.         FidoNet NetMail.

  117.     *>  The mail door now supports offline configuration of the following
  118.         new items when used with a mail reader capable of creating BW 3.0

  130.     *>  The mail door now includes an enhanced File Request mechanism, which
  131.         allows a user to download requested files at the same time they
  132.         download a mail packet.  In order for this to work, the user must
  133.         enter the mail door in "Interactive" menu mode, and must first perform
  134.         a reply packet upload, followed by a mail packet download.

  136.     *>  The mail door, when used with a BW 3.0 Packet compliant mail reader,
  137.         will now generate FidoNet ^aREPLY: kludge lines in EchoMail and NetMail
  138.         message areas.

  140.     *>  Enhanced the mail door internal protocol module to consume less time
  141.         slices under multitaskers such as DESQview and Windows 3.1, and
  142.         operating systems such as OS/2 and Windows 95.  Additionally, the
  143.         internal protocol module should yield much better transfer rates
  144.         with all operating systems and multitaskers.
